Nuthatch in the United Kingdom

The nuthatch recently began to breed in southern Scotland – unlike in the past, when found in the woods of England and Wales.
After hatching, nuthatches usually stay in the woods where they were born. Hence, for local bird lovers of the nuthatch, it is nice to know that the next generation will usually stay in the surrounding environs.
Uniquely, in the United Kingdom, the nuthatch plasters the nest hole with mud where the birds enter.
They are mesmerizing to watch when hanging upside down beneath branches and twigs. Or when descending head-first.
Sawako Utsumi adores watching birds in her native Japan – and whenever she travels to distant lands. Accordingly, her art of birds is another string to her “artistic” bow.
